It is my privilege as President of the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce, along with its Board of Directors and over 200 Tyrone Chamber Members, to welcome you to Tyrone. Tyrone, nestled between State College and Altoona, has a rich history, an abundance of activities and many opportunities for all who visit and call Tyrone home. I encourage you to explore all that we have to offer.

To help you along the way, the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to present its 2009-2010 Visitors Guide. As you leaf through the pages of the Visitor's Guide, you will quickly see all that Tyrone has to offer including outdoor activities, shopping, the arts and more.

Our outdoor activities are second to none and offer something for everyone, from an 18-hole championship golf course, to exploratory caverns and biking and hiking. The angler can fish along the banks of the beautiful Little Juniata River, which winds its way through Tyrone. A short trip to the outskirts of town and you can experience a variety of activities in one spectacular location, Reservoir Park. At the Park, you can swim in our Olympic-sized swimming pool which includes water slides and a separate kids area, with water games throughout. If you are into high-energy sports, you can use our state of the art roller hockey rink, play sand volleyball or shoot some hoops at our basketball court. If a more relaxed atmosphere is your goal, you can stroll through the Park, explore its many pathways, play on the swings, slides and variety of play areas and picnic at one of its many pavilions. For the young angler in the group, you can fish in the beautiful lake, which is stocked with trophy fish annually.

Tyrone also offers many things to do while enjoying a simple stroll through downtown. You can experience first class shopping at one of our many shops, enjoy a wonderful dinner and find some great places for desserts you're sure to remember. A trip to the Tyrone Rail Park and Tyrone History Museum can open the doors to the rich heritage of Tyrone and if your timing is right, you can enjoy a production by Tyrone Community Players or a downtown concert.

It is impossible for me to put into a few paragraphs all that the Tyrone Area has to offer and all of the exciting things that are being planned for our future. However, the Visitors Guide is the perfect place to get the information you need to explore our rich and diverse area. In the next pages, you can get information on many of the businesses and groups to help you experience Tyrone and all that we have to offer.

I am sure you will find the Visitors Guide is a great tool. However, nothing beats a face-to-face meeting. I encourage you to visit the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce office located at 1004 Logan Avenue, which serves as our visitor's center, to get all the information needed to make your visit an/or your stay in Tyrone a pleasant one.

Thank you and welcome to Tyrone, Where Quality of Life Comes First.
